Executive Search


Executive search is being used more and more within the recruitment industry. It is particularly useful when one is searching for skills or personal attributes that are not readily available, or are unusual in a particular sector.

Advertising is expensive. If the number of people capable of fulfilling the duties of a given position are small, it is likely that the number of suitable people who will view the advertisement and respond will be small compared to the expenditure incurred.

In situations like this executive search is the most logical and cost-effective way of looking for staff. Currently 70% of the work carried out by Keith Townrow & Partners is done on a search basis.

An executive search at Keith Townrow & Partners places the emphasis on identifying the right candidates for a given position. We approach potential candidates directly with details of the appointment and establish their interest. We then undertake a thorough programme of checking their suitability before forwarding their names on a short-list.

Keith Townrow & Partners will, as part of the search process:-

  • Discuss and analyse the vacancy with you to gain a clear understanding of your organisation, the requirements of the job and the personal and business environment in which the new executive will be working;
  • Submit to you a written and detailed company profile, job description, personnel specification and statement of conditions of employment. This document will be submitted for your approval and copies will also be provided for your use as you see fit within your company;
  • Give advice on remuneration method and level where relevant;
  • Carry out a comprehensive and confidential (ie without using your company name) research programme to locate and contact individuals whose experience and abilities meet your personnel specification;
  • Compile a list of candidates who will appear to be suitable. Discuss this with you and obtain your approval to approach them. At this stage it is usual to reveal your identity;
  • Approach candidates. Discuss the position and where appropriate conduct interviews to determine their suitability;
  • Compile a short-list of suitable candidates and provide you with a full written report on each short- listed candidate. This report summarises career strengths and weaknesses and will highlight candidate’s where background makes the candidate suitable for your position;
  • Arrange (and, if you wish attend) short-list interviews with you;
  • Take thorough references by telephone from previous employers and colleagues. Produce these in written form for your use;

 

  • Conduct psychometric tests on candidates if required;
  • Stay closely in touch with candidates on your behalf as discussions develop. We often help negotiate offers and draft offer letters - we see a key part of our role as helping to close the deal;
  • Stay in touch with both parties after the successful candidate begins the new job, and carry out with you a review on progress of any candidate we place with your company six and twelve months after employment commences;
  • Find a replacement for the candidate free of consultancy fees if the candidate leaves or you terminate their employment within 12 months.

The key consideration in the Keith Townrow & Partners search process is that you retain control. We will update you on a weekly basis (or more often if required) on how the search is progressing. You retain control over whom we approach and when we reveal your identity. The search process allows you to review current salary levels of potential candidates and thus gives flexibility in making offers. (Benchmarking with companies in similar sectors from whom potential candidates are likely to be drawn is invaluable in ensuring that one can retain existing staff as well as attract new employees.)
