Interim Management

Most businesses these days operate with lean management structures and short lines of communication. The loss of a key executive, or perhaps the need for urgent project work can lead to a critical lack of management cover.

A key service we provide for our clients is the provision of temporary (interim) executives to work alongside other members of the management team.

We should make clear at this point that our interims are not consultants or generalists. Frankly they cannot be if they are to make an immediate, positive contribution to your business. There are very few good full-time interim managers. There are, however, senior personnel who for a number of reasons may be available for short or medium-term assignments. A good example would be a Group Financial Director looking for his next position who, whilst he would not wish to work as a Financial Controller, would be very willing on an interim basis to carry out this function as an assignment.

Similar examples exist in personnel, marketing, technical disciplines and general management (where it is specific to a given industry).

It is critical that Interim Managers have an in-depth knowledge of the industry to which they are assigned, as well as demonstrable management skills that enable them to make an immediate and positive contribution to your business.

It is usual that our interims are over-qualified for their assignment, but this is in effect, what makes us so successful. After all, you need to be sure that the executive we provide will "hit the ground running". There is no training time and very little familiarisation time.

Keith Townrow & Partners provide interim managers as an immediate solution to executive man-power gaps caused by increased workload, sudden vacancy, structural change or as a cost-effective weapon in the everyday need for senior management cover.

It can often make sense to adopt an interim solution in an overload situation whether the problem looks permanent or not. As a result of being given time to think, it may well be that a company will decide on a complete revision of the specification for a job or even on the entire management structure. This can happen because a fresh mind has been brought to bear on the situation. Our interims will always allow their brains to be ‘picked’.

A critical vacancy in a team can be a serious and expensive problem. What is more, it does tend to happen at the worst possible time. If the need arises because of a resignation, the chances of finding a replacement before the resignation takes effect are usually slim. It is even worse when an accident is the cause, then there is no notice to be worked at all.

Interims can also contribute to your business in the longer term long after they have completed your assignment. Our clients often comment on the benefits that linger from having a manager who is highly experienced and independent from the career considerations that are naturally present in any organisation. A fresh mind utilised in a clearly directed sphere can be invaluable.

Our clients come from a wide spectrum of business activity and their assignments range from care and maintenance roles to managing specific projects.

Please call us. We will be very happy to discuss any particular requirements you may have, or simply give more information.
